Overview
Elaborate is a smart digital labbook that turns everyday notes into a structured, searchable knowledge base for scientists and researchers.
Context
Lab Research is a time consuming process and requires documentation for each step.
However, the current methods of documentation are time consuming and inefficient. Researchers struggle to keep track of their experiments and often lose valuable information.
The Problem
Lab Research documentation is extremely scattered across lab notebooks, excel sheets, cloud storage, and even physical notebooks.
This fragmentation makes it difficult for researchers to keep track of their experiments and often lose valuable information. Additionally, the process is extremely time consuming and inefficient and makes it difficult to collect the full documentation during paper writing.
Additionally, lab research and companies find it difficult to keep track of the entire research cycles through documentation.
Why elaborate?
Documentation in research is mandatory, but today it feels like a painful chore with little visible value.

My Role
As the lead product designer, I led the product design effort as well as the prototype development.
We conducted extensive competitive analysis and user research to understand the needs of researchers and scientists.

Which stage are we in?
We won Uminova Innovation's Startup Competition 2025, a prestigious incubator program for life science startups in Umeå.
We have a working demo and currently in process of developing the first version.
